The High Park - 1990 Bloor Street West The High Park – 1990 Bloor Street West
A new 11-storey condo with 108 units ranging from 481 to 1,155 square feet, set to be completed in 2015. Most of the condos have balconies, which is huge bonus – especially for the ones with a view over the park. The layouts are pretty open concept, which is nothing new. Living space seems decent. The marketing material makes it look like it will be well-designed and trendy. The location is prime, which is the main selling point. The High Park overlooks its namesake, and is cozied up to both the Junction and Roncesvalles. It’s also as convenient as all get out to transit.

The Address at High Park - 1638 Bloor Street West The Address at High Park – 1638 Bloor Street West
Long more words that deeds, this one is finally close to complete. Halfway between Dundas and Keele, this one is close to The Junction as well. With 12 floors and 109 units, The Address will put a lot of people close to High Park, the TTC, with the lake not too far away. The Address is a boutique midrise that will offer a welcoming lobby, spectacular landscaped terrace and modern fitness centre. Smaller and less contentious than others, this one looks like a winner to me. No tiny condos here, suites range from 728 to 1,261 square feet. Just beware the ones on the north side, especially the lower levels, as they will be staring right at passing subway trains!

All are large, starting well over 1,000sf and heading into 3,000sf territory. Each heritage loft features a private courtyard or a terrace with stunning High Park views, elegant original architectural features, soaring ceilings, authentic period details and upscale finishes. Parking is all above ground, but the subway is about a 60-second walk away.

High Park Condominiums - 1844 Bloor Street West High Park Condominiums – 1844 Bloor Street West
One of the most contentious condos of recent memory, this is the one going up where all the lovely old Victorian houses were torn down. Adding insult to injury, now they are cutting down all the ancient black oaks on the property. The karma is going to be bad here… real bad. A monolith of 11 floors of brick and glass, it will loom over the park to the south. A lot of people will want to live here, I wish the city had said no. Everyone who lives the area does not want it, they will hate anyone who moves in. Personally, I would avoid it.

High Park also lends its name to two official neighbourhoods of the City of Toronto, “High Park-Swansea” and “High Park North” adjoining the Park. High Park-Swansea encompasses the area west of Roncesvalles Avenue, to Bloor Street on the north, and the Humber River on the west, which includes High Park itself. High Park North encompasses the area to the east of Runnymede Road, north of Bloor Street, north to Annette Street and Humberside Avenue, and east to the CNR/CPR rail way lines east of Dundas Street.

High Park North, or often, simply ‘High Park’, after the park, is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the south by Bloor Street, on the west by Runnymede Road, on the north by Annette Street, Quebec Avenue and Humberside Avenue, and on the east by the CNR/CPR railway tracks. It is located in the Parkdale-High Park provincial and federal ridings. The area east of Keele Street is also known as the “West Bend” neighbourhood informally.

High Park North is mainly residential, containing many semi-detached homes built in the early 20th century. North of High Park, the neighbourhood has several high-rise apartment buildings, built after the construction of the Bloor-Danforth subway. Bloor Street is the main east-west thoroughfare. It is a four-lane road and is commercial in with storefront-type businesses with residential second and third storeys. North-south roads include Keele Street and Dundas Street. Both are primarily residential within the neighbourhood.

Bloor West Village is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada located north of Bloor Street West between Jane Street and Runnymede Road north to Dundas Street West. It is located directly north of the Swansea and west of the High Park North neighbourhoods. Located along Bloor Street is a shopping area known as Bloor West Village, and the part of the neighbourhood north of Annette St is sometimes referred to as the Runnymede neighbourhood.

The major streets are Bloor Street, Jane Street and Annette Street. Bloor Street, the main thoroughfare, is a four-lane arterial road, lined with mainly commercial and retail, predominately two-storey buildings with a retail first floor and residential on the upper floors. Most businesses are local stores and restaurants and there are some chains of fast-food restaurants.

The businesses are organized into the Bloor-West Village Business Improvement Association. The Runnymede Library is also located on Bloor. Jane Street, which is a four-lane arterial road running north from Bloor, changes along its length within the neighbourhood, being predominantly commercial and retail around Bloor Street and Annette. Annette, in the northern part of the neighbourhood, is a four-lane arterial road, which runs east-west and is predominantly residential with some schools and the Annette Library located along the street.

The neighbourhood’s first residents were largely Irish and Anglo-Saxon, followed eventually by immigrants of Eastern European origin. The ethnicity of the area, as recorded in the 2001 Census of Canada is still largely English, Irish and Scottish. The largest Eastern European groups are Ukrainian and Polish; the Ukrainian language was the most commonly spoken non-English language by residents of this community.
