Excavation at DUKE Condos is Underway in Toronto’s Hip Junction
Nicolas Arnaud-Goddet – Urban Toronto
In Toronto’s historic and now trendy Junction neighbourhood DUKE Condos, developed by TAS, will start to rise mid-next year now that excavation is underway. Since our last story featuring the ground breaking ceremony in late October, the digging operations have started to make their way below the street level.
Located nearby the Dundas & Keele intersection, (the building gets its name from DU + KE), this new development designed by Quadrangle Architects will bring 85 units, two townhomes and more interestingly five laneway-accessed two-storey live-work spaces, while adding new retail spaces along Dundas. Those lofts will be composed of a retail space at the ground level and wll be connected to a condominium unit right above it.
DUKE’s south-facing exterior will provide upper-level units with long terraces overlooking the adjacent treed neighbourhood, while its Dundas Street frontage will feature a staggered set of projecting volumes and voids, making for a lively street presence.
